Grateful for Knowing My Mom and Dad

Sometimes, a television show can touch your heart in unexpected ways. For me, it’s Lauren Lake’s Paternity Court. Every time I watch, my heart aches for those longing to know who their father is. Some are seeking answers to fill in the missing pieces of their identity. Others are searching for closure they’ve never had. And every time, I’m reminded of the priceless gift I’ve been given—the blessing of knowing both my mother and father.

I am so deeply grateful for the courage they showed in parenting. They allowed me, my brother, and my sister to see not only their strengths, but also their weaknesses and flaws. They didn’t hide their humanity from us, and in doing so, they taught us lessons that perfection could never teach.

They weren’t perfect, but they were present. And being present was more valuable than anything else. They stood in the gap for us, even when we complained like children who had no idea what it truly took to raise a family.

Looking back now, I see the love it took to keep showing up—to keep listening, guiding, and sacrificing. I thank God for the strength He gave them to stay, even when life was far from easy. I thank Jesus for showing me His heart through their presence. And I thank the Holy Spirit for helping me understand that their flaws never canceled out their love.

Not everyone gets that gift, and that breaks my heart. That’s why I will continue to pray for those who long to know their parents, for those who grew up feeling abandoned, and for those who are still searching for their place in the story of their own lives.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank You for the blessing of knowing my mother and father. Thank You for the gift of their presence in my life. For those who have never known this blessing, I pray You would surround them with the love of spiritual mothers and fathers, with friends who feel like family, and most of all—with Your own steadfast presence. Heal every wound of abandonment, and remind them that in You, they are fully known and fully loved. Amen.

Peace & Blessings,

#FaithandRace Video Series – #cfocmfaithandrace

#FaithandRace Video Series
Confronting Lies. Reclaiming Truth. Pursuing Justice.

For too long, race has been used as a weapon — to divide, dominate, and distort the truth of who we are. But God never created race as we know it today. This series exposes the historical, biblical, and social consequences of man-made racial categories and calls us back to truth, repentance, and repair.

Each episode stands on its own — but together, they tell a story the Church must no longer ignore.

  • Episode 1: The Curse of Ham – The Lie That Shaped a Legacy

For centuries, a twisted interpretation of one verse — Genesis 9:25 — was weaponized to justify slavery, racism, and white supremacy.
But the so-called “Curse of Ham” is not what you’ve been told.
Let’s confront the lie and reclaim the truth hidden in God’s Word.

  • Episode 2: Race in the Bible: What It Really Says (And Doesn’t Say)

Many assume the Bible talks about race, but it doesn’t mention Black or White.
From Genesis to Revelation, Scripture speaks of tribes, tongues, and nations — not color.
So where did race come from, and what does God really say about our differences?

  • Episode 3: The Burden of Race – Consequences of a Construct

For generations, a man-made system of race has divided, distorted, and destroyed lives.
It didn’t come from God. It was created to rank. To control.
To elevate some while dehumanizing others.

But God is not calling us to guilt — He is calling us to truth, repentance, and repair.

  • Episode 4: The Price of Passing – Erased to Belong

In America, many chose “whiteness” to survive; and in doing so, were forced to deny family, culture, and truth.
Some passed to belong. Others were erased by the lie of race.
Let’s uncover the cost of assimilation, the myth of racial categories, and the call to reclaim what truly defines us.

Share. Reflect. Act.

We invite you to share this series with your church, your family, and your community.
Not to stir division — but to pursue healing, clarity, and biblical justice.
Because the truth sets us free — and we are called to walk in it.

GIFTED GIVING

(Originally posted on Blogger at http://www.modulatingtones.com on October 17, 2017)

When I was a young girl, my mother use to make me go to the store for the lady who lived next door to us. Mrs. Clark and her husband didn’t have any children of their own, and I suppose my mother felt it appropriate to share hers with folks who she, too, called Mr. and Mrs. I wasn’t allowed to take any money from this neighbor – who later in life I grew to adore – and became quite annoyed by this “charitable act” which I felt forced upon me.

The store was about three blocks away from our house, and I felt it very unfair for not being permitted to take money for those errands. I could have made at least $1.25 cents per week by running back and forth to the store for Mrs. Clark and that money would have certainly helped me to buy those scrumptious squirrel nut zipper candies that stuck to my teeth and fluffy “cheesy” cheez doodles that were a mess of fun to eat.

My mother would always remind me after witnessing my pouting face returning home empty-handed that money should not be my motive for doing things for others and especially if those others are in need. She said that until I began going to the store for Mrs. Clark without expecting to get paid, I will always have to go to the store for our childless neighbor and not get paid.

I didn’t get it at first but eventually I started going to Mrs. Clark’s house on my own – without being told – and would ask her and Mr. Clark if they needed me to do anything for them. I began liking how helping them made me feel. Once I began doing that, my mother started giving me money for those desirable treats she knew that I loved. She told me not to look at it as payment for helping others and to more so consider it as a “gift for giving”.

Be Encouraged Beloved!

John 3:16 (King James Version)

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

John 3:16 (New Revised Standard Version Catholic Edition)

“For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life…”

John 3:16 (The Scriptures)

“For Elohim so loved the world that He gave His only brought-forth Son, so that everyone who believes in Him should not perish but possess everlasting life.

John 3:16-18 (The Message)
“This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life. God didn’t go to all the trouble of sending his Son merely to point an accusing finger, telling the world how bad it was. He came to help, to put the world right again. Anyone who trusts in him is acquitted; anyone who refuses to trust him has long since been under the death sentence without knowing it. And why? Because of that person’s failure to believe in the one-of-a-kind Son of God when introduced to him…”

Peace & Blessings!

EARTH HAS NO SORROW THAT HEAVEN CANNOT HEAL

There are  no words… I mean, what’s left to say?

How much more can be said than what so many tears have already expressed?  How many protests are needed to stop Black blood from pouring out onto our streets?  What number of commissions have to be established to turn off  the faucet of hate oozing with the red liquid of the Blacks slain?   Can police training curriculums penetrate those who are severely blinded by bigotry?  Are law enforcement hiring systems savvy enough to identify those who seek to hide their prejudices ?  Do these occurrences  have to just be accepted by us because we know evil exists and the Prince of Darkness does as well?  I think not!  I will not!  We must not!

Yes, God is good, and Satan is a defeated foe.  Nevertheless, I can’t stop thinking about that young girl who the journalist reported was  in the foster care system and a ward of the State of Ohio.  That news, along with the shooting incident,  in and of itself was telling and something that ought to have gotten our attention.  Something that should keep the intercessors on their knees.    Ma’Khia Bryant was only 16 years old.  An age I had an opportunity to revel in over 45 years ago, but an age that  Ma’Khia will not be able to move on from.  Life stopped any hopes she may have had on making it to 17.

Hearing the news about Ma’Khia  on top of some of  the  other recent news like that of  21 year old Daunte Wright  continue to remind us that we are living in a country that is still  plagued  by an aggressive cancer.  A racist disease that seeks to denigrate  Black family cells  while metastasizing a  hate  that kills and destroys.

No…  we don’t have to accept this!  I refuse to accept this!  Our children’s children will not have to deal with this debilitating disease that we have been dealing with most of our lives.   Enough is Enough!    We must believe God and continue to pray so that He pours out His healing mercies treating us with His divine therapy .   The Bible tells us that God is not a man that He should lie (Numbers 23:19) and that His Word will not turn back void (Isaiah 55:11).  Therefore,  we have to continue to pray and believe what is declared in 2 Chronicles 7:14:  “If my people, which are called by my name,  shall  humble themselves, and pray; and seek my  face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their  sin,  and will heal their  land.”

Earth has no sorrow that Heaven cannot heal!
